Life has been so, so, so much lately for many. And while it feels ridiculous in the extreme to think sharing a fresh batch of ‘Extraordinary Five’ may help, I have found this blog (from its very inception) has always sought to find beauty in all forms and share it. So that’s what I’ll continue to do best I can.
Here are five places I’ve found the extraordinary lately in case you may need some, too.
01. Jaw-dropping choreography
This choreography had me gasping. How someone created this with a collection of human bodies is quite literally beyond my comprehension. I also loved seeing a group of young men create something so beautiful live together.
02. Symmetry = joy
This could be a run of the mill post for some but for me it brings such satisfaction. Perhaps it taps into some perfectionist trait that requires complete symmetry to relax? Just spitballing here. No clue. Check it out to see if it has the same delightful effect on you.
03. Home sweet n’ stunning home (twofer)
For anyone half as design obsessed as I am – watch Phoebe McDowell (Interiors and Beauty Director of The Sunday Times Style) walk through her north London flat. Her design style is so comforting.
If a home could be described as a live wire – Natasha Landers home is that. Electric with colour, style and texture. And she’s a delight. Check it out whenever you’re in need of a dose of colour and personality.
04. A fave comedy duo
How Kate Berlant and John Early feel about Paris is how I feel about Manhattan. If we’re lucky, we all have a place in the world that makes us feel this way. This sketch is everything you need it to be.
05. Thank you composer Christopher Tin for creating this masterpiece
I actually cry every time I hear this piece of music. And as much as I love soloist Jimmer Bolden’s voice – please watch for the joy on the conductor’s face, too. The words translated speak of a plea for rain and for all to be well. May it be so.
This is the particular clip that makes me sob every time. Without exception.
You can listen to the full piece here. Note: Turn on the closed captioning to see the beautiful words translated.
Bonus: Comedy writing at its finest
I love this old SNL sketch with Ryan Gosling so much. How on earth does someone even think to write this? Thank you brilliant SNL writers.
I love you so much all you bunnies in your bunny suits. Stay bundled. Stay warm. Stay kind.
