‘Keep the change’ – Bob Wiseman Interview

I figured out that my gift was, in fact, a gift because too many people kept explaining they couldn’t do what I do.

My big dream is making a living from my creative activities.

What I do to fill myself up when I feel scared or alone: Oatmeal.

‘Keep the change’ are the words I try to live by.

Most beautiful thing I’ve seen today is an old cat still ticking.

Kindness between people is what makes me feel alive.

Favourite lyric right now: Everybody knows that the dice are loaded / Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.

Best advice ever received? Get a vegetarian meal on your flight.

Canoe trips are what ‘going home’ feels like to me.

Taking responsibility for speaking up was my hardest lesson to learn.

Favorite lyric from one of my own songs: I sew my pants from your laughter / I knit my sweaters from your smiles / ain’t no blizzard that can stop me / the way I’m dressed I can walk a hundred miles.

Best advice I have to give? Floss.

A Q&A conversation. Thank you for being the magic music man, Bob. You are all the things the world needs – genius, humanity, freedom and fun. Grateful you agreed to this interview (many years ago now).

Good things take time.

Described by Ron Sexsmith as
"Canada's Tom Waits", meet
Canadian music phenom Bob
Wiseman. This former member
of Blue Rodeo released his first solo
album in 1989 and has been taking
us on a trippy multimedia ride that
uplifts, provokes and entertains
ever since. He has toured with
Feist, Final Fantasy and guest
performed with Wilco and the
Wallflowers, all while using his
music to serve others with his
novel personal and political
honesty. When you hear his voice
you know you're hearing the truth.
It just resonates. He is also a
teacher and a big-timey writer
of a book, too. Wise man indeed.
